Blue Ivy
I’m a girl who has the world watching me. The world has been watching me grow up for fifteen years straight. My parents have been there every step of the way. At age six, I told my mom I wanted to sing. Her eyes were wide as she formed the biggest smile. Immediately, I was in the recording room, my dad nodding his head to a beat he produced and my mom looking so proud, telling me to hit the high notes like she always did. I released about two tracks. It was hard at that age, so I decided to wait a few years. Now I have my own album BLUE IVY coming out. I never am out of the spot light. There’s no such thing as privacy. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s the life my parents lived, and I’m following in their footsteps in this long journey ahead of me..
I woke up with the sun in my eyes.
“Happy birthday to you..” A melodious voice sung in my ear.
“Ayo happy birthday baby!” a familiar voice began to rap.
I opened my eyes and saw my beautiful parents standing at my bed side. I sat up. They had a pink and white birthday cake in front of my face. I blew out the candle ‘15’ and smiled. They began to cheer.
“Come on downstairs, we have some people we want you to meet!”
I told them I’d be down and they disappeared down the steps and began talking to someone. Their cheerful voices bounced off the walls of our big house as I put on my favorite RocaWear t-shirt, short shorts, and silver hoops. I put on flip-flops as well and descended down our spiral staircase. I walked past the dining room and into the living room.
I instantly began smiling. My parents’ good friends Alicia and Swizz were here.
They’ve known me since I was born. I hugged them tight and then my mom said in a mysterious voice,
“Someone else is here.”
“Who?”
“Can’t believe we didn’t introduce you two..you probably don’t even remember him” Swizz shook his head.
I raised my eyebrow as a boy who towered over me walked in and smiled at me warmly. It felt like my breath was knocked out of my body.
“This is our son Egypt,” Alicia said, giggling a little.
“H-Hi,” he stammered, taking off his shades.
“Hey” I grinned and motioned for my parents to go away.
“Fine, fine!” Mom held up her hands and laughed. She tossed her honey hair to the side and grabbed Dad’s hand. “Let’s go outside on the porch, y’all.” All of the adults left. Now it was just Egypt and I.
“You’re Blue Ivy?” Egypt asked.
“Yea,” I blushed.
“Beautiful name,” he said.
“So is yours,” I sighed.
“Blue! Egypt! Get out here!” I heard my dad shout. We both groaned simultaneously and stepped outside.
“What, Dad?” I questioned.
“I think you two should stand out here with us,” he muttered.
“Dad!” I protested. “Mom—”
“Jay..let them have their fun. Remember when we were like that?” she said.
He rolled his eyes.
“We have to go anyway,” Alicia said standing up, dusting herself off. Swizz took her by the waist as Egypt turned to me,
“Bye…”
“Bye” I waved.
They walked off to their car, got in and drove off.
I stood there for a second. I wonder when I’ll see him again.
“Ready for your birthday party?” Mom asked excitedly.
“Yea,” I said flatly and followed her inside.
